ENO – ONE is a performance about a woman and her quest for freedom and co-existence. She shares a single body, space and time with other women. She builds oneness with them, and they are reflected in her singularity. Her steps are common steps, her thought is the thought of countless others and her wing is a field that allows only collective co-existence. Until her sense of belonging is dispelled by a taste of the individual and her pores are imbued with the smell of freedom.

Grounded in flamenco, the work unfolds as an open field for choreographic research, where contemporary dance and jazz-oriented sound intersect and inform one another. By drawing from multiple musical lineages, it creates a porous structure that invites continuous transformation between movement, rhythm, and improvisation. The elements of movement, flamenco’s physical complements – foot percussion, finger snapping, palmas (handclapping), breath and voice – constitute a musical instrument and co-shape the musical composition. What we see on stage is “her” doubling in the form of two dancers as well as “her” extension in the form of two musicians allowing constant fluidity and a dialogue with “her” and her inner monologue which keeps erupting. This creates different nuances of a polyphony as a musical and movement orchestration whereby each “sentence” resonates the previous and challenges the following. The one determining the meaning is always the other, being preconditioned by the inseparable intertwinement (oneness) of all sharing this place and time.

ENO – ONE is hence her image which is indivisible with the outer world, her breaking of movement and words not to reconstruct the questions of meaning but to address all those who together with her enter the dialogue in which she still remains herself – infinitely individual, unusual, etheric, enigmatic, fluid, mysterious, magical. A woman dancing.
