Renowned dancer and musician Urška Centa, in collaboration with the Big Band RTV Slovenia, presents a unique project that brings together movement and sound in a dynamic symbiosis of flamenco and jazz orchestration. The project opens a new vision of the dance–music form of flamenco, situating it within a broader sonic landscape and shaping a powerful artistic experience through the freedom of improvisation.
Special guests of the concert include outstanding composers and performers: Guillermo McGill, an acclaimed Spanish drummer, composer, and pioneer of the genre, who has collaborated with leading figures of flamenco and jazz such as Chano Domínguez, Jorge Pardo, Wynton Marsalis, John Abercrombie, Dave Liebman, and Enrique Morente; Jošt Lampret, one of the most virtuosic double bassists of the younger Slovenian generation and a composer; and the innovative ensemble Sentido Project, featuring—alongside Urška Centa—bassist Tadej Kampl, percussionist Nino Mureškić, and saxophonist Primož Fleischman. The group has established itself at renowned festivals and concert venues and has completed two successful tours in Mexico.
The Big Band RTV Slovenia, which celebrated its 80th anniversary last season, is one of the oldest ensembles of its kind in the world. Founded in 1945 by the visionary composer and conductor Bojan Adamič, it remains a cornerstone of Slovenia’s musical and cultural identity.
Originally known as the Dance Orchestra of Radio Ljubljana, the ensemble achieved international recognition under the direction of Jože Privšek, establishing itself as one of Europe’s leading jazz orchestras. Over the decades, the RTV Slovenia Big Band has collaborated with some of the most renowned international artists, including Paquito D’Rivera, Toots Thielemans, Michael Legrand, Kurt Elling, John Hendricks, Mike Stern, Joe Lovano, Don Menza, Bart Van Lier, Mario Biondi, Mats Holmquist, and New York Voices, among many others. These collaborations have significantly shaped its artistic identity and strengthened its international reputation.
Balancing a repertoire that spans from the classic big band sound to contemporary and original productions, the ensemble plays a vital role in the development of jazz while maintaining a high level of artistic and production excellence within the European context. Since 2025, the artistic director of the ensemble is Matjaž Mikuletič, with Tadej Tomšič serving as principal conductor.
